A few frequently asked questions
Why choose a just romania Transylvanian challenge?
We have successfully run treks and bike rides in the Carpathian Mountains of Transylvania and have a first class team of organisers and expedition leaders in Romania. This means that we can offer accurate and valuable advice on everything you might be worried about from travelling to training to what kit to take. And of course we have a wealth of experience in fundraising, which means that we can offer lots of advice, support and encouragement in relation to your fundraising efforts.
How do I go about raising sponsorship?
Once you have signed up for a challenge, we will send you a comprehensive challenge pack to make your fundraising as easy as possible. We are only a phone call or an email away and have lots of ideas to help you.
What happens if I can't raise the money?
If you cannot raise your minimum sponsorship we will ask you to make up the balance yourself, in order to keep your place on the event. Please do phone us for advice and ideas, if you are experiencing difficulties.
What's the average age of people on the events?
We have participants of all ages from 18 - 68. However, the majority of trekkers and bike riders will be aged between 30 and 55.
Do I get chance to meet other people before we go?
For some events we organise an Information Day / Evening a few months ahead of the trip. This is a really good opportunity to talk about fundraising, meet other participants and hear more about the event itself from the organisers and some people, who have actually participated previously.
Will I be able to keep up?
The challenge is not meant to be a race - the aim is to finish, at your pace. You will be put in a group of your own choice. You don't need to be an athlete but you should be aware that the Transylvanian challenges are designed to suit people who are reasonably fit, so training beforehand is essential and strongly advised.
How much training will I need?
Your expedition pack will include a training guide, which you should follow in order to enjoy the event. You can also click on training tips for information. For all challenges, you should train.
What's provided?
For all challenges: accommodation, experienced guides, meals, support vehicle and any permits or equipment (such as bikes and skis) are provided. Each challenge pack will have exact details.
What do I have to provide?
After paying for the tour cost and sponsorship, you'll need your kit (boots for the hikes, cycle helmets for the bike rides), You are also responsible for making sure you have comprehensive personal travel insurance. You must NOT travel without insurance. Don't forget some spending money so you can buy souvenirs and a few drinks.
How do I know what kit to bring?
We'll provide you with a packing checklist detailing everything you'll need.
Where will I stay?
Accommodation is usually shared in mountain lodges and country villas during the expeditions. Please let us know when you book if you must have a single room. There may be a small supplement for single occupation.
How safe are the events?
We only use knowledgeable staff, who have previous experience and are experts in organising charity events in Romania. The challenges are led by experienced, English-speaking local guides, some who are also from the local mountain rescue services. A well-supplied support vehicle backs up the expedition on most days.
