MEDIEVAL CITIES - PALACES, CASTLES & FORTRESSES 7 nights / 8 days
Day1: BUCHAREST – GOLESTI – CURTEA DE ARGES – HOREZU – TIRGU JIU
Departure from your hotel in Bucharest to Golesti. Visit the mansion there. We continue to Curtea de Arges and visit the monastery. Then on to Horezu and visit the monastery. Overnight in Tirgu Jiu. Day 2: TIRGU JIU – HUNEDOARA – SEBES/CALNIC – ALBA IULIA
Breakfast and departure to Hunedoara. After crossing the Carpathians we’ll visit the Huniazilor Castle, the most important gothic castle in Romania. The day continues with a visit to the fortress in Calnic. Then on to Alba Iulia and overnight accommodation. Day 3: ALBA IULIA – CLUJ
Breakfast. Visit to the citadel in Alba Iulia. Departure to Cluj- Napoca, the most important economic and cultural town in Transylvania. Visit to the art museum located in the Banffy Palace ( 18th century – Baroque style). Overnight in Cluj. Day 4: CLUJ – BISTRITA – TIRGU MURES – SIGHISOARA Breakfast. Departure to Bistrita for a short stop and then on to Tirgu Mures – “the town of the roses”. Visit to the Palace of Culture with its Hall of Mirrors. Continue to Sighisoara and overnight accommodation. Day 5: SIGHISOARA – BIERTAN – SIBIU
Breakfast and then visit the medieval citadel of Sighisoara, including the birthplace of Vlad Tepes ( Dracula), the Romanian prince that inspired the character of Dracula in Bram Stoker’s famous novel. We continue to Biertan and visit the fortified church (XVI century – Gothic style with renaissance influences). We end the day in Sibiu with a visit to the art museum in the Brukenthal Palace.
Day6: SIBIU – CARTA – FAGARAS – HARMAN – PREJMER –BRASOV Breakfast. Departure to Carta. Visit the Cistercian monastery ( founded 1202). Then on to Fagaras to see the castle / fortress ( 15th – 17th centuries). We continue to Harman and Prejmer and visit the fortified Saxon churches. Day7: BRASOV – BRAN – SINAIA Breakfast and free time in the medieval centre of Brasov including a visit to the Black Church. Then a short drive to Bran to visit “Dracula’s Castle” before ending the day in Sinaia with a visit to Peles Castle. Day 8: SINAIA – CIMPINA – BUCHAREST
Breakfast and departure to Cimpina to visit the Iulia Hasdeu Palace. We finish our tour in Bucharest with a visit to the art museum at the Royal Palace.
